Introducing the new limited edition Cle De Peau Beaute Holiday 2017 Collection, featuring my Chinoiserie-inspired paintings! Many thanks to CPB Creative Director Lucia Pieroni and spokeswoman and muse Amanda Seyfried.
For the past year and a half, I’ve had the honor and delight of working on this new collection of paintings for the luxury cosmetic brand, Cle De Peau Beaute (a global make-up company that’s part of the Japanese company Shiseido). We’re excited to announce its arrival in stores such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Barney’s.
Many months ago, we welcomed the Cle De Peau Team from Tokyo and New York, to visit my studio here on Bainbridge Island to discuss CPB Creative Director, Lucia Pieroni’s, vision of a love story/narrative, “Nuit De Chine”, based on her inspiration from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s tribute to Chinoiserie fashion, art, film and more at the recent “China Through The Looking Glass” exhibit. (You might remember the gala opening hosted by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, who was featured in the documentary film by the same name.)
The world is definitely becoming smaller. It’s wonderful and magical that Lucia, from London, connected and was inspired by my work here on our island, a half hour ferry ride from Seattle!
As the NY/Tokyo CPB Team visited and presented their vision here in my island studio, of color, fashion, and movie stills, I could see we were all headed in the same direction.
We then flew to New York to meet with Lucia and additional members of the CPB team. It was so great to meet everyone involved in the collaboration! Lucia is wonderful and warm and passionate and creative—it was a joy to hear her ideas and spend time with her and the CPB team. (Lucia’s very fun Instagram features her incredible make-up artistry for many fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen, as well as other makeup brands: @lucia_pieroni )
We had shipped a few of my paintings for the NY meeting so that Lucia and the CPB team could see my work in person. We brought examples of how we might be able to express the team’s ideas for the “Nuit de Chine” Holiday 2017 limited edition collection through my art.
Back home on the island, I worked on pencil sketch ideas for the pressed powders in the coffret. As I usually work in color and paint, pencil sketching was something new. I really liked it, and I love the finished product of my swallow sketch flying to the flower that was interpreted by CPB and incorporated into the makeup coffret.
I painted four love story narratives/paintings for Lucia’s concept of Nuit de Chine: “Premonition,” “Encounter,” “Distance,” and “Passion.” Each painting was then translated into packaging for eye pencils, nail polishes, skincare and makeup coffret.
I also hand-painted a number of gold CPB makeup pouches to sign for CPB clients (in 18K gold!) for a series of launch parties.
Our first event in September was a luncheon in the private Reuben Room at the beautiful Neiman Marcus, Dallas NorthPark. My work was interpreted as tablecloths and also as a backdrop for photos for this special gathering hosted by Dallas Modern Luxury magazine. (We are looking to introduce a Kathe Fraga home décor line–stay tuned!)
My Chinoiserie-inspired silk and linen pillows were available for this special event, and will also be available at upcoming events, along with two different silk scarf designs, based on my paintings, and gift boxed greeting cards.
Next stop: Neiman Marcus San Francisco and Nordstrom Bellevue. I’ll be signing the custom, one-of-a-kind gold pouches as the team introduces the new Holiday Collection.
Many thanks to Cle De Peau, Lucia Pieroni and the Shiseido team for the incredible attention to detail, artistic interpretation of my art for each product, respectful use of the images and romantic concept—I appreciate this magical opportunity to collaborate with such beauty!
